Epic Treadmill Reviews

Brand Rating: 4.0/10

EPIC fitness, known for their treadmills and other exercise equipment, is part of ICON Health & Fitness. Many brands are found under this branch including Reebok, Weslo, Image, Freemotion Fitness, HealthRider, Weider, ProForm and NordicTrack. Being part of this company gives EPIC an upper-hand in consumer satisfaction because its parent company is so well-versed in fitness equipment. ICON has been around since 1977 when Gary Stevenson and Scott Watterson founded their first company, Weslo, Inc. At the time, the duo were business majors at Utah State University and were looking for a way to fund their college experience. Weslo, Inc. started as a tableware and kitchenware importer, bringing products from the Far East to the United States. Two years later, the company purchased the rights to a wood burning stove which they marketed to the energy conservers of the nation at the time. Their intelligent business moves allowed their company to prosper and gave them their chance at entering the exercise equipment industry.

ICON Health & Fitness, focused mainly on the individual exercising experience, has several training facilities for world-class athletes. The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team has a center made just for them as does the San Francisco 49ers and the Sydney football club. ICON also has training facilities for the French Open, the U.S. Open, UFC gyms and several collegiate sports teams. The U.S. Olympic team has a training center designed especially for them, thanks to ICON. The products under the ICON umbrella have been seen all over the media. Across the Internet, on the television and in magazines, ICON products are most certainly well-known. Not a company willing to let itself become stagnant, the ICON Health & Fitness equipment line has treadmills, stationary bikes, incline trainers, home gyms, elliptical machines, weight benches and even hand-held exercise equipment. The company has 223 patents that have been issued and more than 100 still pending as innovation is definitely on the mind of ICON.

EPIC, as a brand, has been designed for the individual working out at home or at the gym. Those that have used an EPIC product know that EPIC fitness equipment is made with quality in mind. The brand itself was launched by FreeMotion Fitness. The EPIC name has become a mainstay in elite training centers around the world. Along with their treadmills, EPIC makes strength-training equipment. Two of their treadmills, the 600 MX and the View 550, are some of the best on the market.

The 600 MX Treadmill is a commercial-grade treadmill that can be used in a home or in a gym. EPIC designed the 600 MX with a 2.5-horsepower motor, created especially for their treadmills. The motor comes with a 12-year warranty and the treadmill itself can bear up to 325 pounds safely. Cushioning built into the running deck allows users to run or walk comfortably, no matter the severity of their workout. Speed and incline are controlled with the click of just one button. This treadmill can reach speeds of up to 12 miles per hour and inclines of 12 percent. The tread belt is designed with non-slip technology and leaves room for those with longer strides to run without worry.

The View 550 Treadmill from EPIC gives users all the amenities that the 600 MX Treadmill but with a stronger motor, a larger running deck and a heavier weight capacity. All of these and a 7-inch flat screen television built-in give the View 550 every reason to be considered what it was called in 2008: a Best Buy.
What We Like

  • Price: New Epic treadmills are priced under $1500.
  • Motors: Most Epics have 2.5-3.0 HP motors, which is standard and sufficient for most runners.
  • Special features: All Epic treadmills are sold with a variety of computerized workout programs. Certain Epic models, such as the Epic View 550, have audio ports, subwoofers, and built-in TVs.
  • Track: The 60โ€ track on many Epic models is ideal for runners and tall walkers. Some models, such as the 400MX, include a patented ComfortStep shock absorption system.
  • Motor warranty: Epic models are sold with strong 12-year warranties on the motors.

What We Donโ€™t Like

  • Recall: The Epic T60 has been recalled for safety reasons related to a loose coil. When sprung loose, the coil has caused injuries and minor property damage.
  • Parts and labor warranty: Some Epic treadmills come with weak 1-year warranties for parts other than the motor.

Our Verdict

Epic treadmills offer good value at a moderate price. They feature the bells and whistles of more expensive models, and any compromises are not evident to most users. If you do purchase an Epic, be sure to get an extended warranty.
