FreeMotion 850 Review
The FreeMotion 850 treadmill is the top model by FreeMotion, offered for just under $1,300 by major retailers like The Sports Authority.
To begin with, the motor is a commercial-grade quality 3.5 HP motor resting on 2.5″ balanced non-flex rollers, with excellent incline, decline and speed capabilities. This model offers speeds up to 12 mph, inclines up to 15% and also declines from -3 to 0%, ideal for incline training, sprinting, running, etc. The console also allows you to make fast, efficient changes with the digital quick speed/incline/decline controls.
The FreeMotion 850 is also ideal for residential use as it is designed with a folding frame with EasyLift Assist Technology, as well as transport wheels. The weight capacity is at 350 pounds and the running area is quite spacious at 22″ wide (which is wider than the average 20″ wide deck) and 60″ long.
The console is equipped with a 7″ backlit LCD display screen that offers an impressive 32 preset workout programs and iFit compatibility. The one-step workout controls are easy to use, and the built in fan and water bottle holder make working out more comfortable. Finally, this console also offers full audio offering like an smartphone compatible music port and built-in speakers.
This model comes with lifetime coverage on the frame and motor, 5 years on parts and 2 years on labor.
What We Like:
- Folding Design: A folding design is ideal if you plan to use your treadmill indoors, but the problem is that many models compromise durability for a folding frame. This model does not. With EasyLift Assist Technology, it’s easy to fold and store away the trainer, but the deck is not lightweight or unsteady.
- Warranty: FreeMotion offers lifetime coverage on both the frame and motor, which is an excellent offer. You also get some coverage on parts and labor.
- Decline Capability: It’s always nice to be able to incline, but to be able to decline is just icing on the cake. Few models will offer such capabilities, but this model does. You can decline from -3 to 0 degrees very easily using the one-touch controls, so you can simulate varying terrain with the touch of a button.
- Program Variety: The number of preset workout programs with this model definitely impresses. With 32 built-in workout programs
- Price: This model is just under $1300, making it a budget-friendly treadmill for most people.
What We Don’t Like:
- Display Screen: The display screen dimensions aren’t terrible at 7 inches, but it is a bit of a crowded display and can be difficult to read.
- Heart Rate Monitoring: Though this model is equipped to work with a wireless chest strap receiver, the chest strap is not included. You can however use the dual-grips built into the handlebars.
Our Verdict:
This is a pretty reliable treadmill with some nice comfort and performance features. It’s affordable and features a folding design, so it’s an ideal piece of equipment for in-home use. The console also offers some advanced tracking options like iFit compatibility (subscription sold separately), making it easy to track fitness goals. For runners, the FreeMotion 850 is also a fairly good choice as it does offer some high-performance features tailored to a runner’s needs. If you are a runner looking for a treadmill from a more well-known brand, you may want to consider the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 which is a best buy award-winner and a customer favorite for years.
