The Cybex R Series Treadmill is a high-end, high-speed cardio trainer made for membership gyms. Ready for serious runners, it has a top speed of 14 mph and is optimized for smooth interval training. At peak the R Series Treadmill supports 8.0 HP! With any workout intensity, gym members appreciate the quiet operation, calorie-blasting power incline, extra-wide workout surface and joint-friendly suspension.

Customization is a hallmark of the Cybex brand. First, with the R Series Treadmill you have a choice of two consoles: the 70T and 50L. The 70T provides an integrated 16” video display with touchscreen for enhanced exercise guidance. The 50L has a simplified interface and can be paired with a detachable TV. Custom colors are another brand benefit; the Cybex R Series Treadmill can match any club’s colors. Owners can also choose from three software platforms for behind-the-scenes management and to share club-specific content with members.

What We Like:

High Speed, High Power: The Cybex R Series Treadmill is among our review site’s best treadmills for runners. It features a 4.0 horsepower AC motor with peak capacity of 8.0 HP, and the tread belt can turn at up to 14 mph. For comparison most treadmills for runners top out at 12 mph.
Incline Training: To optimize workouts at any speed, the deck has power incline with a max setting of 15 percent.
Large Track: This elite cardio trainer provides a roomy workout area. The running space is extra wide at 21”, and it’s five feet long to support a sprinter’s best strides.
Variable Suspension: The new R Series Treadmill has advanced suspension systems. Instead of giving uniform flex, it provides graduated shock deflection: The workout surface is firm at push-off to support high performance, and it’s softer in the landing zone to help protect joints and ligaments.

What We Don’t Like:

High Price: Compared with some other commercial treadmills, the Cybex R Series Treadmill has a high price tag. It’s designed for elite fitness centers rather than customers focused on lower-budget options.
Large Footprint: Measuring nearly seven feet long, the R Series Treadmill isn’t a compact cardio trainer. By choosing a different model, a club might fit more machines.
Warranty: The warranty is acceptable but not outstanding. It provides for seven years of motor and frame coverage and one year for mechanical parts. Labor is free during the first six months of machine ownership.

Our Verdict:

The Cybex R Series Treadmill is a premium cardio trainer that serves all workout intensities. Especially customizable, it’s a favorite for elite fitness centers worldwide. You could spend less on another commercial treadmill and be assured of durability… but you’d likely miss the “wow factor” that comes with a Cybex! This trainer is especially appealing when paired with the 70T console or the 50L plus detachable TV.

  Hi Mohammed, the R series and V series for Cybex differ in user options and technology. The R series has more technical functions and programs while the V series is more of a basic treadmill. Depending on what features you are looking for, you can compare the two on the Cybex website to see which model best suits your needs.

In your review, you wrote "gym members appreciate the quiet operation..". We just purchased two of the 2019 R series treadmills for a multifamily fitness center. They are the most excruciatingly loud treadmills I have ever heard; if one is being used at a moderate pace, you have to nearly shout to be heard. If both are being used at the same time, it's so loud that people are forced to leave the area. We are calling for warranty service; if they are somehow mal-adjusted or can otherwise be quieted down, I will return to update this review. Otherwise, they're gone.

  Hi Jason, we are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the volume produced when using your treadmill. Typically this model is a quieter version as it absorbs impact but in general treadmills will always be louder than other exercise machines due to the foot to tread sound. Another option may be using a higher incline at a slower pace to increase intensity while reducing the thumping of regular running. Are there other factors that are contributing to the loud sound? We would be happy to advise how this can be alleviated.

    Hi Amanda, Thanks for the reply. The noise isn't from foot-to-tread, it is a loud roar, like roller and/or motor bearings on the brink of destruction. I am reasonably familiar with commercial treadmills, having first-hand experience with BH, True, Bodyguard in our facilities, and then the life fitness/cybex/etc treads that are scattered throughout my local Lifetime Athletic. None of them have noise levels anywhere near what is coming from these machines. When I wrote "it's so loud that people are forced to leave the area" above, that wasn't an exaggeration. The rep from the local distributor is coming out tomorrow, hopefully with a tech in tow. I want to like these treads and am hoping they find a solvable problem.
