Horizon 7.0 AT Review (2024)

Editor's Rating: 8.3 /10
Best Buy Award(s):FoldingUnder $1500

The Horizon 7.0 AT is well-built for runners, joggers, and walkers alike. As the entry point of Horizon’s Studio Series, there aren’t any particular bells and whistles, but it does offer exactly what is necessary. These features provide challenging workouts for most fitness levels and a machine strong enough to bear the physical demands of a runner pushing his or her limits. If you’re looking for a $999 treadmill that folds, this is tough to beat. The 7.0 AT has a steel frame, which gives it a strong foundation—sturdy and durable enough to handle more intense runs. The lifetime warranty offered on both the frame and 3.0 CHP motor demonstrates that. The 60″ running deck is a bit longer than the standard 55″, making it a good choice for taller runners and those with a longer stride.

In Brief

At just $999, the 2023 Horizon 7.0 AT is a solid treadmill with all the features of a much pricier unit, except a flashy high-definition touchscreen. Instead, this unit sports a 7.25″ high-contrast LCD screen and tablet holder. The Horizon brand tends to cost less than comparable machines due to this greater emphasis on machine over app and television-like screen. But with a 15% incline, 12mph speed max, and 60″ long treadway, there’s little you can’t do with this unit.

In-Depth Review of the Horizon 7.0AT

Why We Like It

The Horizon 7.0 AT Treadmill serves as the entry-level unit of that brand’s Studio Series, with the 7.4 AT and 7.0 AT coming next, priced at $1,599 and $1,999 respectively. The big plus to the Horizon lineup is they focus on the machine as opposed to the app-and-touchscreen combination of say a NordicTrack treadmill which comes iFit-enabled. Built to secure a tablet or smartphone to the top, the Horizon treadmills expect you to either use whatever app you want, or one of its eight built-in programs. The machine itself is compatible with lots of different programs but ultimately if you’re bringing a tablet you can watch whatever you want. But I’m a huge fan of brands that offer lifetime warranties on the frame and motor. This tells me they have confidence in their engineering. So long as you lubricate the belt and use common sense, there’s no reason a $999 Horizon 7.0 AT shouldn’t last as long as you want it to.

Horizon 7.0 AT Console

It Comes With A User-Friendly Console and Tablet Holder

If you’re not into large television-looking screens which only work with one particular app, the Horizon 7.0 AT has your design. The display is 16-digit alphanumeric LED with a 7.25″ inch LCD screen. Connect with Bluetooth through the Android or Apple for fitness apps. Free fitness app AFG PRO works with the 7.0 AT. Other compatible apps are Under Armour and FitBit. Set your device on the tablet rack and watch something on Netflix. You can also enhance your listening with built-in speakers, accessible via Bluetooth or plug-in. If runners aren’t interested in apps, the treadmill comes with eight built-in programs: 5K, Calories, Custom, Distance, Fat Burn, Hill Climb, Manual, and Target HRT. The console is easy to use for anyone and nearly impossible to misunderstand. One complaint about the rivals’ large interactive screens is they can be quite complicated and only work with one program. The Horizon 7.0 AT is the exact opposite.

Take A Look At What the Horizon 7.0 AT Can Do

Lifetime Warranty on Frame and Motor

There’s no question Horizon puts the time and money into its parts. From 3-Zone Cushioning in the deck to 60mm/46mm tapered rollers and a 3.0 CHP motor with 500 pounds of incline thrust, you’ll be good to go machine-wise. The Horizon lineup even features an automatic “Lube Now” flasher which alerts users to the need to lubricate the belt as needed. In my own experience, lubrication of the belt is something easy to forget. The fact that I don’t have to worry about these mechanical issues really gives me peace of mind here.

Solid Performance

The speed goes up to 12 mph, while the incline upper limit is 15%. Combined, these ranges can make for challenging runs as well as aggressive interval training and conditioning for any runner. It’s more than enough for a good cardio workout and lower body muscle toning.  Speaking of cardio, the heart rate monitor is a grip pulse to quickly check your vitals. Fans of the brand Horizon will appreciate the return of QuickDial controls to the handlebars, which had been added to the 7.8 AT back in 2020.

Easy to Fold

Folding up the 7.0 AT just couldn’t be easier. Irrespective of your age or strength level, it’s just a lift-and-click movement. Keep in mind the machine itself weighs about 277 pounds, so moving it around on its front wheels does require some strength, but frankly I didn’t find it difficult at all. The value to folding treadmills is ease of movement and maintenance it’s just so much easier to maintain, lubricate, and clean out from under a folding treadmill than one that doesn’t move.

What We Like:

  • The Frame

The solid steel frame makes it a heavier, more durable machine able to stand up to constant, potentially heavy footfalls.

  • Motor Power

The 3.0 CHP lets you run like the wind and allows for high intensity interval training and conditioning. The motor is also very quiet, so you can have an intense workout without disturbing the rest of your household.

  • Deck Size

The deck size 20-inch x 60-inch is longer than the normal residential treadmill and will accommodate taller runners and those with longer gaits comfortably. However, you will have to accommodate for that extra area needed in your home gym.

  • Deck Cushioning

Running is notoriously tough on your knees and joints. Horizon’s three-zone variable cushioning helps to alleviate the impact. It absorbs the shock on take-off and landing. Over time this makes a real difference in preventing excess wear and tear of your body, allowing you to be a runner longer.

  • Incline Range Up to 15%

The incline helps to target and tone different muscle groups while increasing calorie burn. Running on an angle also reduces some of the impact that comes from hitting a flat surface. The higher end of the range is challenging for even the most advanced fitness levels.

  • Folding

This is a great feature for home units that require storage.

  • Speed Range 0-12mph

This range is more than adequate to attain fitness goals of a beginner or a more advanced runner.

  • Connectivity

Connectivity through Bluetooth to tablets and smartphones. The 7.0 AT works with both Android and Apple devices.

  • Fitness Apps and Built-In Programs

Use the free fitness apps compatible with dozens on the market or use a pre-programmed routine.

  • Warranty

The warranty offers great, lifetime on the frame and motor, three years on parts and electronics and one year on labor.

  • Financing

The 0% financing offer makes it even easier to get your fitness routine rolling without denting the bank account.

What We Don’t Like:

  • Small Screen

Yes, I know… This really is an either/or issue here. You either want one or you don’t. But if you’re looking for a large 24″ interactive high-definition touchscreen, clearly this isn’t it.

Horizon 7.0 AT QuickDial Controls

Horizon 7.0 AT’s QuickDial controls paired with the Rapid Sync technology is ideal for HIIT training. Oleksandr Kosheliev / TreadmilReviews.net

This Treadmill Could Be For You If You Want:

  • A low-cost treadmill that doesn’t sacrifice features
  • A treadmill without a large touchscreen
  • A treadmill that allows you to use multiple fitness apps
  • A 15% incline and top speeds of 12 mph
  • Bluetooth enabling

Our Verdict:

The Horizon 7.0AT is a good treadmill and will satisfy the needs of most runners. What it lacks it fancy extras, it makes up for in important and useful features. The incline and speed ranges make it possible for users at different fitness levels to get a good workout. The longer deck is great if you have any taller users in your household. and the three-zone cushioning is absolutely key in helping to protect your knees, hips and ligaments from the ravages of running. All in all this is definitely an effective runners treadmill.

Horizon 7.0 AT FAQs

Can you use the Horizon 7.0 AT for long runs everyday?

Yes, the Horizon 7.0 AT has a powerful yet quiet 3.0 Continuous-Duty HP motor, which can hold up to long runs and interval training.

Does the Horizon 7.0 AT have built in workout programs?

Yes, this treadmill has eight built-in workout programs, and is equipped with Bluetooth connectivity so you can use your favorite fitness apps.

How long will the Horizon 7.0 AT last?

With a lifetime warranty offered on the frame, one can assume the company expects a long life. That said, treadmill lifespan is largely dependent on usage and care. Still, one should be able to expect a solid 10 to 12 years on this machine at minimum if proper care is taken.

Is the display on the Horizon 7.0 AT too small?

The 7.25" screen is just that, not a HD touchscreen. We wouldn't say it's too small as that judgement depends on the user's intent. It's certainly much smaller and less dynamic than other brands, and we'd assume a customer would be using their own tablet or phone for live programming, if that's what they want. With a home treadmill, many runners simply watch television or use some other device. The 7-inch screen is sufficient for the built-in programs, and if that's what one wants, that will work.

Is it easy to move a folded up Horizon 7.0 AT?

Yes, in fact that's one of the big selling points. This is a very user-friendly model in that sense.
