The TR800-DT7 Treadmill Desk is inspired by a fun fact: You’re more productive and creative when you’re moving! Walking slowly but for long time periods is an easy way to drop pounds. The LifeSpan TR800-DT7 treadmill desk is specially designed to help you lose weight while doing office work. The motor is optimized to run at low speeds for up to three hours, and the console is flush with the desktop. It has memory for two trainees.

This unit is one of LifeSpan’s simpler treadmill desks; some other ones being the TR800-DT3 Base, the TR800-DT5 and the TR1200-DT5. We give it a positive review overall, but the track is shorter and narrower than most.

This brand’s best treadmill desk for 2014 is the TR5000-DT7. This upgrade to the TR800-DT7 has a more spacious track and stronger components. Its motor can run for ten hours straight without overheating.

What We Like:

Here are the LifeSpan TR800-DT7’s top selling points:

  • Simple Assembly: The LifeSpan treadmill arrives pretty much assembled! Within a half hour of delivery, most people have the machine up and running. This is partly because there’s not a big console to attach. You could pay extra for White Glove delivery service, which includes set-up and delivery to any room, but it’s not needed by most customers. The treadmill weighs 120 pounds and the desk weighs 130 pounds.
  • Adjustable Height: Whether you’re petite or very tall, your work surface will probably adjust to the right height. The adjustment is done electronically and the treadmill will save the preferred settings for two people.
  • Good Motor: The treadmill’s motor is virtually silent, which is of course important when handling business phone calls. It’s designed to operate for three hours straight without overheating. The warranty covers it for three years.
  • High Speed: Most people who use treadmill desks only walk one or two miles per hour. The TR800-DT7 treadmill lets you walk up to four mph! The range is .4 – 4 mph.
  • Shock Absorption: The track specially absorbs impact at six points, making it easier on your joints compared with walking or jogging outdoors.
  • Soft Armrests: Foam-injected armrests are smart ergonomics, helping you avoid carpal tunnel at the computer.
  • Well-Placed Console: The TR800-DT7 console is placed in a convenient spot without detracting from work space. It shows calories burned, number of steps taken, time and distance on a simple LCD.
  • Bluetooth Integration: This treadmill desk is Bluetooth-enabled, which lets you wirelessly sync and track activity data with a LifeSpan computer app and with the LifeSpan Fitness Club. The LifeSpan Fitness Club is an online health and fitness tracking program. One free membership is included with purchase of the desk.
  • Low Step-Up: The base is just 6″ tall, so it’s comfortable for anyone to step onto.
  • Safety Features: The Intelli-Guard safety feature automatically pauses the treadmill when you step away. Guard rails are also provided to prevent slipping.
  • High Capacity: The maximum user weight is 300 pounds.
  • Satisfaction Guarantee: Try it out! You’ll get 60 days to decide whether this treadmill desk is right for you.

The warranty for this LifeSpan desk treadmill includes lifetime protection for the frame and three years for the motor. Parts are covered for one year. The first year of labor is free. You can expect the DT7 to outlast its warranty as long as you follow basic maintenance advice (i.e., shield the treadmill from dust and keep the belt lubricated). You can purchase extended parts warranties for three years and for five years.

What We Don’t Like:

  • Track Size: The TR800-DT7 treadmill has an 18″ x 52″ two-ply track. It is both shorter and narrower than most treadmill tracks. The short length means that some people’s strides won’t be accommodated. Regarding the width, although this machine has a 300 pound capacity, a person who’s approaching that weight will probably want a roomier workout area.
  • Just the Basics: This unit doesn’t include a workout incline or preset workouts like other treadmills do.
  • Three Hour Limit: Three hours might not be enough for some workers! Other desk treadmills by LifeSpan can operate for up to ten hours. (See the TR5000-DT7.)
  • Plastic Components: The guard rails are plastic. Although the frame has a lifetime guarantee, better quality treadmill desk have metal guard rails.

Our Verdict:
This LifeSpan desk treadmill is a pretty good version of a great idea. It operates quietly enough for you to have speakerphone conversations; the warranty isn’t bad; and the adjustability makes the desk fit almost anyone. Some people will feel constrained by the narrow belt though.

Prefer an upgrade? The TR1200-DT7 desk treadmill costs just a bit more. It’s designed to run for six hours straight instead of three, and it has some better-quality components. The LifeSpan TR5000-DT7 can run for ten hours straight. It’s LifeSpan’s top treadmill desk for this year.
