Merit Treadmills by Johnson Health Technology are budget workout machines. The review of the 715T, which is the Merit brand’s simplest treadmill, sells for under $500. It is most appropriate for light exercise.

What We Like

  • Price: The Merit 715T’s MSRP is just $500 and new models are frequently sold at a discount.
  • Customer service: Wisconsin-based Johnson Tech is known for getting customer service right. Customers report that representatives are friendly and replacement parts are delivered promptly.
  • Portability: The 715T can be folded for storage. Its folded dimensions are approximately 29”x51”x62”.
  • Motors: Merit motors used to have as little as 1.25 horsepower, but the upgrade to a 2.25 HP motor isn’t bad for a low-cost workout machine.

What We Don’t Like

  • Manual incline: The 715T lacks a motorized incline; users need to manually adjust the tilt. Furthermore, the 715T’s maximum incline is just five degrees.
  • Programs: The 715T has only four computerized workout programs.
  • Track size: The 715T has a tiny 16”x45” track.
  • Warranties: With just a 1-year motor warranty and 90 days on parts, the Merit 715 isn’t likely to work well for long.

Our Verdict

Merit sells low-cost treadmills and provides good customer service. However, Merit treadmills have poor warranties and should not be expected to last for long. They also lack the extras that help make exercise more enjoyable.

Potential Merit 715T customers might want to consider an upgraded Merit model, although the brand’s best model, the 735T, isn’t much more competitive with just a 18”x52” track. Other discount brands tend to offer better value.
