NordicTrack Incline Trainers are hybrids between regular treadmills and stairclimbers. Exercisers can walk flat, but the track can be tilted up to 40% and decline slightly, too. Incline training gets faster results than traditional treadmill training by forcing exercisers to use their muscles differently. The X5i is NordicTrack’s intermediate-level incline trainer.

What We Like

Efficient workouts: Like all NordicTrack incline trainers, the X5i tilts to a 40% incline. The personal trainer Jillian Michaels has stated that training at a 40% incline burns 5x the calories of walking flat. This machine also declines by 3% for extra muscle toning.
Low-impact workouts: By walking on the X5i or any incline trainer, a walker can achieve results more quickly like a runner, but put less stress on his or her body.
Console: The X5i comes with a high-resolution Grafixx display. This tracks progress in real time with an ever-changing graphic readout. Eighteen workout programs are built into the machine, and it’s also iFit-ready. NordicTrack incline trainers are iPod-compatible and have speaker systems. The X5i also features a 4” fan to help people exercise longer.
Longer track: The 55” track on this incline trainer is suitable for many runners, which is more than we can say for some other incline trainers.

Our Verdict The NordicTrack X5i incline trainer is a great machine for exercisers who want efficient and low-impact workouts. Extras include 3D graphics, personal training iFit workouts, and a great sound system. People with shorter strides can also use the machine for running. The NordicTrack X5i has a more advanced display system and more workouts than the X3, but this might not be worth an additional $600. Customers should carefully compare the specifications. Another consideration is that the X5i can only support users weighing up to 300 pounds. Customers who weigh 300-350 pounds are advised to try the X7i, which has a 350-pound capacity.
