Find Your Perfect NordicTrack Treadmill: Reviews (2024)

NordicTrack was actually born in the great state of Minnesota, known for an average high temperature of just 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Naturally it’s somewhere you’d want to train inside, and exactly the sort of place you’d expect to birth of one of the largest manufacturers of indoor fitness equipment. NordicTrack’s founder first designed and sold indoor cross-country ski machines, and in the ’80s NordicTrack expanded its roster to include treadmills, ellipticals, and other cardio trainers, growing into the top international fitness brand we know it as today. It is currently owned by iFit Health & Fitness, along with other world-leading at-home fitness brands such as ProForm, and FreeMotion.

In addition to hosting several NordicTrack treadmills in my own home for testing, I’ve visited the iFit corporate headquarters now in Logan, Utah to try out their lineups, move them about, and work with the parts. NordicTrack’s 2024 treadmill series includes traditional treadmills and incline trainer treadmills. In each series, most of the models have high-definition touchscreens and by now all support the iFit app. With the app, users can take advantage of unlimited workout program downloads including scenic interactive workouts built with Google Maps, customized training advice, and automated logging of your fitness stats. The hallmark of iFit is automated trainer control, meaning the machine, or live trainers, can adjust the speed, resistance, and incline/decline of the unit. The machines do work without the $15 to $39 per month app, but not so much their screens. Without the paid app, you’ll be able to use the treadmill in manual mode, and no, the screen won’t work with Netflix. 

As with any brand there are both plusses and minuses, and with NordicTrack you’re getting high-quality engineering, a sturdy machine, the latest in virtual training capabilities, as well as top incline and decline options. The downside is the NordicTrack brand tends to be a little pricier than the alternatives and the screens don’t sync with apps other than iFit. What’s Entailed in The NordicTrack Brand

When browsing the 2023 NordicTrack product line, we see two different levels of machines–the entry-level EXP Series and the higher spec Commercial Series. Both of these lines offer great machines that can accommodate a wide range of fitness goals and exercise styles including walking and running.

By bumping up to the Commercial Series from the EXP Series, you’ll benefit from several additional features, including:

• Extra wide tracks, which give you plenty of room to run comfortably
• Advanced cushioning systems for superior joint protection and comfort
• Sturdy and more durable construction, ensuring that you feel stable at all times
• Smooth and quiet operation
• Steeper inclines which can provide even greater sculpting benefits and better simulate hill running outdoors if you prefer training in that way

Regardless of which of these lines you choose, the following features are also available:

• Foldable capabilities, so that you can neatly tuck your treadmill away when not in use to save space.
• Continuous-duty horsepower motors that range from 2.6 on the EXP 7i to 4.25 on the Commercial X32i. The EXP 7i is an ideal treadmill for walking and jogging, but it doesn’t perform as well for more serious running. For running, any other model in their line should serve you well.
• The EXP 10i treadmill offers a power incline that goes all the way from zero to 12%, giving you the ability to crank up the intensity of your workout sessions whenever you please. If you opt for a Commercial Series treadmill you’ll get a power incline and decline setting from -3 to 15%, giving you an even greater range.
• If you want apps, the NordicTrack range won’t disappoint. The treadmills come with many built-in applications including iFit which gives users access to a vast array of workout programs and personalized coaching to help kickstart your fitness journey or recharge your current exercise routine.
• All the treadmills contain responsive cushioning to give your joints better impact protection.
• As NordicTrack continues to update these models, their HD touch screens are increasing in size–currently the smallest screen available is the 7″ HD screen on the EXP 7i. The biggest is the 32″ screen on the X32i.
• Regarding the warranty, NordicTrack offers up to 10 years on the frame, 2 years on parts and 1 year on labor depending on the machine.

When you decide to train on an incline, your calorie burn increases dramatically. A severe incline is a great way to increase fat burn and optimize weight loss–especially for those who are unable or unwilling to get into running. This is precisely what has made some of the NordicTrack Commercial units so popular. In particular, the X22i and X32i can almost serve as a hybrid between a stepper and a treadmill, providing you the benefits of both platforms depending on its settings during your workout.

In addition to their ability to use such a steep incline (as well as a decline of up to -6%), NordicTrack Incline Trainers also offer:

• Continuous-duty horsepower ratings ranging from 4.0 to 4.25
• iFit interactive training sessions both live and on-demand
• iFit Google Maps workouts which allow you to plot your cardio routes on real streets and different terrains around the globe
• Wireless heart rate monitoring via an iFit Bluetooth chest strap (included)
• Warranty protection offering up to 10 years on the frame, 2 years on parts and 1 year on labor depending on the machine
• High quality HD touch screens built into each console ranging from 10 inches on the X11i, up to 32 inches on the X32i

What We Like:

• Motors

  NordicTrack treadmills tend to have powerful motors relative to their peers in the same price range. Most of the 2023 models have at least 3.0 continuous-duty horsepower (CHP). To read up on everything you want to know about treadmills, check out our article here.

• Consoles 

  NordicTrack provides some of the top treadmill consoles in the industry. In my experience, one of the primary reasons you’d shop NordicTrack is if you value a big, interactive screen. The NordicTrack lineup comes Bluetooth-enabled and chock full of sound amplification by way of speakers. These models tend to have workout fans, water bottles, and storage containers as well.

• Coaching 

  These days and going forward, NordicTrack is designed to work with iFit. The interactive app costs $39 per month for a family plan and $15 for a single. What makes iFit unique is that it offers both live sessions and automatic trainer control which allows either program or trainer to adjust the resistance during a workout. No doubt, iFit is the most dynamic app on the market today.

• Incline/Decline

  There’s a whole host of reasons why treadmill users want incline and decline options on treadmills. Myself, I like both and use them extensively when hill climbing and hiking. Varying your elevation while running or walking is the quickest way to boost your metabolism and tone the legs. NordicTrack treadmills offer some of the biggest ranges in incline and decline on the market, from -6% up to 40%. If that’s your interest, this brand is for you.

• Tracks 

  NordicTrack sports good-sized tracks, ranging from 20″ x 55″ on the EXP 7i to the 22″ x 65″ on the X32i. All of these decks have cushioning and shock-absorption systems and feature leveling feet.

• Warranties 

  This brand’s treadmill warranties tend toward the 10-year mark for the frame, with two years for parts and one on the labor. While these are not the best on the market, which does feature rivals with lifetime warranties, they’re what I feel to be the industry standard.

What We Don’t Like:

• iFit-dependent

  If you’re not into interactive app training, or you think the monthly $15-39 fee is too high, keep in mind that NordicTrack’s screens become manual-only without it. They don’t work with other apps or computer programs like YouTube or Netflix. If you’re not into these kinds of programs, you’d be better off with a lower-priced model that comes with a secured tablet holder and built-in programs.

• Pricey

  NordicTrack treadmills are not low-cost relative to their peers. Keep this in mind if you’re a budget-minded shopper.

Our Verdict:

NordicTrack has established an enviable reputation in the treadmill industry. We highly recommend treadmills from each of their series, from the simpler EXP Series models to the Incline Trainers, and our best treadmill pick, the Commercial 1750. The wide variety of price points, physical features and programming from NordicTrack means that most shoppers can find their perfect match.
