ProForm Sport 9.0 S Review

Editor's Rating: 6.2/10
Update: This model has been discontinued. To find a suitable replacement, check out our treadmill finder here.

The ProForm Sport 9.0 S TreadmillĀ is a mid-level machine in the ProForm Sport series. Unlike the cheaper Sport 7.0, this treadmill includes an iFit module with daily customized workout downloads as well as fun and useful interactive online features. The Sport 9.0 S Treadmill also has significantly more built-in programs (30 in total) and a steeper automated incline of 15%.

The ProForm Sport 9.0 S is pretty similar to the top-of-the-line Sport 12.0 ST, which typically sells for $400 more. The 9.0 S might be the best choice from this group unless you need a treadmill with higher weight capacity or a very powerful motor. The 9.0 S Treadmill can support up to 325 pounds and has a 3.0 HP motor.

Having recently reviewed some truly exceptional treadmills, we’re not too excited about this one. For one thing, the three-year parts warranty brings some hesitation. (Itā€™s too short for the MSRP of $1599). You can find reviews toĀ some of our favorite treadmills in this price range here.

Hereā€™s what we like and dislike about ProFormā€™s new Sport 9.0 S Treadmill.

What We Like:

  • Program variety:Ā You certainly won’t get bored by this machineā€™s workout options. There are 30 workout programs that target speed, calorie burn, and endurance. Like all ProForm workouts, these were designed by a certified personal trainer. The routines can be adjusted to your best speed range and incline range. Furthermore, you can get unlimited personalized workout sessions via iFit.
  • iFit enabled: iFit technology takes treadmills to a whole new level. Use your wifi connection to virtually travel around the world from your treadmill. Create a route onĀ Google Maps and the ProForm Sport 9.0 S Treadmill will adjust to simulate every hill and valley while displaying video of the location on the console! Other iFit features include: custom-tailored workouts, fitness progress tracking, diet guidance from experts, and treadmill competitions with Facebook friends. Although the ProForm Sport 9.0 S only has a simple screen (not the best for iFit), you can run iFit through a tablet computer and attach that to the console.
  • Display:Ā The 7″ screen is rather basic, but you can add your tablet computer to the treadmill for a better experience. The tablet can stream iFit videos and, of course, can be used with other workout apps.
  • Incline: The automated incline tilts the track by up to 15%. Training on an incline can significantly boost your metabolic rate and enhance your muscle tone. It also adds variety to workouts to keep your body guessing.
  • Full track on 2.5″ rollers:Ā The Sport 9.0 S’s track measures 60″ long x 20″ wide. Powered by a 3.0 HP motor, it can support speeds up to 12 mph. This track is designed for better longevity when compared with cheaper competitors. However, it will still require occasional lubrication.
  • Motor: The ProForm Sport 9.0 S Treadmill is powered by a commercial-grade 3.0 HP motor with a lifetime guarantee.
  • Wireless heart rate monitoring: Trainees get two options for heart rate monitoring. First, a grip sensor system is built into the handlebars. Second, thereā€™s a Bluetooth connection for use with a wireless chest strap (not included).
  • Dual fans: Two console fans will help you maintain a comfortable body temperature during workouts.
  • iPod port: The treadmill’s iPod-compatible port makes it easy to enjoy audio during exercise. Use the console’s integrated speakers or hook up your headphones.
  • SpaceSaver design: Live in tight quarters? Some people canā€™t afford to lose floor space to a treadmill. Fortunately, the ProForm 9.0 S Treadmill can fold vertically with EasyLift assist.

What We Don’t Like:

  • Warranty: Buyers get a lifetime warranty on the ProForm Sport 9.0 S’s motor and frame. That’s nice, but will the rest of the unit last? Parts are covered for three years (weā€™d like to see five) and free labor is only provided during the first year of ownership. This warranty isnā€™t awful but itā€™s not competitive either.
  • Assembly:Ā It’s a good idea to request a PDF version of the manual before you order. If assembly looks like a headache, then consider paying extra for White Glove Delivery.

Our Verdict:

There’s not much to criticize about the ProForm Sport 9.0 S Treadmill. At the same time, thereā€™s not much to get excited about. This product easily gets lost in a sea of enticing competitors. If youā€™re willing to spend $1599 on a treadmill, then you can get fancier and more durable machines. Unless you are buying this machine on sale, itā€™s worth shopping around to find something with better value. Check out reviews of some of our favorite treadmills in this price rangeĀ here.
