Treadmill training has obvious benefits, but heavy running will take a toll on your joints and ligaments through repetitive impact. Fortunately, there are alternatives that are gentler on the joints. Sole Striders are comfortable treadmill alternatives that use low-impact elliptical motion at many stride lengths. Cushioned pedals on the Sole ST600 Strider move in elliptical paths from 18 to 26 inches long, giving almost anyone a variety of comfortable exercise options. Each variation works the body differently: shorter stride paths work the thighs and calves, while longer paths focus on the hamstrings and glutes. The stride can be adjusted electronically rather than manually, allowing for especially dynamic workouts.

Additionally, the Sole ST600 can sculpt the upper body with its moving handlebars, with different grip positions target-toning muscles in the arms, shoulders, chest, and back. Other key specs for the Sole ST600 include a 27-pound flywheel, 16 resistance levels, and 12 preset workouts. This is a low-impact total body trainer built to suit just about anyone, regardless of body size and ability level.

This hybrid fitness machine weighs approximately 290 pounds. Its footprint is much smaller than that of a standard treadmill, just 53″ long and 33.5″ wide. Te user weight capacity is 350 pounds.

What We Like:

  • High Quality: The ST600 Strider may carry a residential warranty but it feels like a club-quality trainer. Some key features include cushioned pedals, a 27-pound flywheel, and a 288-pound product weight.
  • Compact Size: The ST600 isn’t just superior to treadmills in terms of joint protection, it’s also more space-conscious. The machine has a footprint of just 53″ x 33.5″. This unit is also 20″ shorter in length than the ST300.
  • Fits Everybody: The Sole ST600 Strider can comfortably fit virtually any adult thanks to its stride settings that range from 18″ to 26″.
  • Versatile: Adjusting the elliptical stride length alters the workout effect. Shorter strides make the machine mimic a stairclimber to target the thighs and calves. Longer strides let it serve as a joint-friendly treadmill alternative that targets the glutes and hamstrings.
  • Power-Adjustable: Stride changes on the ST600 are made electronically rather than manually, so you can seamlessly use shift between settings mid-workout.
  • Total Body Training: Unlike treadmills, Sole Striders come with with moving handlebars to support complete body workouts. The ST600’s premium handlebars support multiple grip positions to diversify upper-body training.
  • Preset Workouts: A 7.5″ monitor with backlighting displays workout data and provides twelve workout programs for interval training, strength, and calorie burn. Multiple users can save profiles.
  • Beverage Holder: A water bottle holder is included for convenient hydration.
  • High Capacity: This unit has a maximum user weight capacity of 350 pounds.
  • Warranty: The Sole ST600 Strider is sold with lifetime protection on the frame, five years on parts and electronics, and two years of in-home labor.

What We Don’t Like:

  • Simple Console: The console lacks some features that are standard on comparably priced treadmills and ellipticals like a workout fan, speakers, and wireless data tracking.
  • Full Price: The full price of $2,999 puts this trainer out of reach for many shoppers. Fortunately the sale price is a much more reasonable $1,999.

Our Verdict:

The Sole ST600 Strider is a high-end full-body trainer that fits in well to any home gym. Thanks to the versatile low-impact motion with 16 challenge levels and adjustable stride length, this machine can suit a wide range of trainees. This product is an especially good value at the $1,999 sale price, which includes a five-year warranty on the parts and electronics. The full price will be too expensive for most shoppers though. Be sure to keep an eye on Sole’s sales if the ST600 feels like a fit for your home gym in every category other than the price tag.
