Spirit Treadmill Review

Brand Rating: 6/10

Spirit brand treadmills are manufactured by Dyaco, a multinational company based in Taiwan. The company also produces the popular Sole treadmill, and it exports fitness equipment to commercial clients and home users in dozens of countries.

What We Like

  • Price: Spirit home treadmills cost about $900 – $2000 when purchased new. A wide variety of machines are available to suit different workout budgets.
  • Audio: Some Spirit models come with audio ports and built-in speakers to provide extra motivation to exercise.
  • Compact size: Several Spirit models can be folded to save space. Their “soft drop” design makes the process easy on the user’s body.
  • Consoles: Spirit consoles stand out from others. They are multi-colored but sleek and uncluttered, and the buttons are easy to press in the midst of running. Controls are also built into the handrails of some Spirit treadmills.
  • Convenience: Spirit treadmills are available through home delivery.
  • Motors: The motors in some Spirit home treadmills are equal to or better than those of other treadmill brands in the same price categories. Spirit’s top-of-the-line model for 2010, the XT675, has a 3.5 HP motor to support runners weighing up to 425 pounds. The Esprit ET6 has a 2.5 HP motor, which is adequate for most walkers and light joggers.
  • Tracks: Some Spirit treadmill tracks are relatively tiny, but the brand’s best model, the XT675, boasts a 60”x22” track.
  • Warranties: Spirit treadmills now include 30-year or lifetime motor warranties, 1-year warranties on parts and labor, and 5-year frame warranties.

What We Don’t Like

  • Cheaper models: The quality of Spirit machines has a wide range. The cheaper models are noticeably less sturdy and less powerful than the more expensive models. The Esprit ET2, for instance, has a very small track (50”x20”) and a relatively weak 2 HP motor.

Our Verdict

Spirit treadmills are well worth researching. Potential customers who are not concerned about having a treadmill TV or iFit reader will find these treadmills to be more than adequate. They are well-built, generally have roomy tracks, and feature great warranties. The Spirit XT675 has an especially strong motor, a high weight capacity, and a built-in sound system.
