Vision Fitness’s folding treadmill, the TF40, is the elite model in their folding treadmill series (and is the folding version of the T40) available for 2015, offered from $2,799 to $3,799, depending on which of the three consoles you choose: the Classic, Touch + or Elegant +.

From the powerful drive system to the unique goal tracking and workout program offerings, we really like the mix of performance and comfort with this model. It’s not every day that you see such a durable frame and powerful motor on a folding frame treadmill, but Vision has achieved that goal.

What We Like:

  • Console choice: We like that you have choice when it comes to consoles as some people like more bells and whistles than others. If you are looking for the basics, the Classic with LED display and basic pre-set workout programs is for you. The Touch + features a 10″ full-color touch screen display with high-definition video and access to ViaFit™ and Passport Media Player, and is the only console with speakers and smartphone compatibility. The Elegant + features a 15.6″ full-color touch screen display, also with ViaFit™ and Passport Media Player.
  • Heart Rate Monitoring: Both the Touch + and Elegant + feature built-in heart rate sensors, a receiver and strap for easy, wireless hands-free heart rate monitoring. This information can also be used with the various workout programs to help you to better set, achieve and monitor workout goals.
  • Wireless Tracking: With Visions’ own ViaFit™, users can track, set and monitor workout data without having to manually enter any data. This wireless feature shares your individualized workout data with a number of apps that can then be linked to ViaFit™ (see their website for the list of supported apps).
  • Virtual Active Programming: This immersive technology is similar to other programs by other brands that use Google Maps to create workouts using actual locations around the world. This program, called Virtual Active, comes with the two top-tier consoles and features two locations; additional courses are sold separately.
  • Unique Workout Programs: With the Elegant + and Touch + consoles, Vision has created their unique Sprint 8™ High Intensity Training (HIIT) Workout program that promises with each 20-minute Sprint 8 workout, you can more efficiently built lean muscle mass and reduce body fat in just eight weeks. This program works by automatically adjusting speed and incline as you move through series of intense and rest intervals.
  • Motor: This durable 3.0 CHP motor supports speeds up to 12 mph. The larger motor is designed to run at lower revolutions so it is both powerful and quiet. This motor also comes with a lifetime guarantee.
  • Digital Drive System: The Johnson Drive System is a responsive, digital drive system that automatically and intuitively adjusts and recalibrates at speed and incline changes.
  • Deck: Vision’s Infinity Deck™ System is tested to run 21,000 miles with NO maintenance. Their decks are also integrated with wax right into the belt fibers, one inch in thickness, and incredibly durable with a double phenolic coating.
  • Incline: This model features an incline of up to 15%.
  • Folding Frame: This model can be easily folded up and stored away, going from 83 inches in length to just 41 inches, in minutes.
  • Warranty: The Vision Fitness T40 treadmill includes lifetime warranties for the cushioning, frame and motor. Parts are covered for seven years, and labor is provided for two years.

What We Don’t Like:

  • Price: These are well-made treadmills, but they are also quite pricey.
  • No decline option: Most models at this price point will offer a decline of some degree. This options is great for simulating more varying terrain.
  • Lacks built-in fan: This model does not come with a cooling fan built-in to the console, a feature that comes standard with most treadmills.

Our Verdict:

The TF40 folding treadmill by Vision is a well-made treadmill with a lot to offer. We like that users can choose their console that best fits their needs, and we like the workout programs and “extras” that make these consoles incredibly interactive and fun to use. The drive system is impressive, as in the warranty, and the deck is both solid and reliable. So while the price tag is steep, if you want a reliable treadmill that will last, we definitely recommend the TF40 folding treadmill by this well-known and trusted brand.
