ProForm Carbon T14

Editor's Rating: 8.4 /10

I Recommend this Treadmill For You If:

  • You’re looking for a well-built treadmill priced under $1,599.
  • You value a large touchscreen.
  • You’re more interested in fast walking and jogging than distance running.
  • You like interconnected fitness and the iFit app.
  • You want a smaller treadmill that can fold easily.

The ProForm Carbon T14 comes in atop the brand’s Carbon Series with the T10 and T7, offering a solid mid-level treadmill for the average household. Not too big, not too small, it’s just right for the mainstream.

A folding treadmill with an EasyLift function, the unit is a bit smaller than some of its peers with a 20″ x 55″ walking belt. If you’re preparing for a 5K, then you’ll definitely want a different model, one with a minimum of 20″ x 60″ or better yet, a 22″ x 60″ track. But there’s no question you can burn calories and build muscle even with incline walking and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on a shorter unit. At $1,599 the Carbon T14 does come right into that middle zone and there’s little question to the actual machine quality.

As with the shorter track, the unit’s 2.75 CHP motor is perfect for intensive bouts of walking, even for larger folks. To learn more about treadmill motors and determine what best suits your needs, read our in-depth feature here. But aside from that, users get all the other features found on a larger machine. Purchase comes with a 30-day trial of iFit, a program I’ve reviewed here and used extensively. In terms of workout apps, it’s tough to beat. Designed to be used with the iFit Health & Wellness family of machines, from treadmills to strength equipment, the program brings automatic trainer control where users can let the gear adjust resistance quite smartly. Workouts are both live and on-demand, with a library now in the thousands. If participating in live workouts, the trainers can adjust the treadmill resistance from remote locations while you focus on the leaderboard. This program is designed to work with the 14″ Smart HD Touchscreen. One point to consider, this treadmill’s screen will not work with other apps or serve as a television. With the iFit Family Membership plan running $39 per month, my advice on machines like this is if you don’t want the app, pick a different model. Yes, it will work in manual mode without iFit, but you lose the value of the screen and automatic trainer control.

In terms of performance, the treadmill offers an incline maximum of 12% and speeds of 10mph. As a bodybuilder and powerlifter, I happen to like HIIT workouts and hiking trails. These speeds and incline are perfect for that. The machine measures just 73.5″ x 35.2″ x 57.5″ but can support up to 300lbs in user weight. Equipped with dual 2″ Bluetooth speakers, the unit is headphone compatible and can also be used in conjunction with heart rate monitors. It comes with a fan as well as an ISO Flex Cushioning system to help absorb the shock of pounding feet, as well as oversized leveling feet to keep the unit balanced. As a folding treadmill, the Carbon T14 features EasyLift technology and pops right up with a gentle lift. Once locked upright, it’s safely in position, and comes down just as easy. The ProForm Carbon T14 has a 30-day return policy as well as a 10-year frame warranty, with just one year for parts and labor.

What I Like:

  • Large 14″ HD Touchscreen: The 14″ HD Touchscreen actually compares well against larger, much pricier units. In terms of bang for the buck, you’re getting a great deal here if screen size matters to you.
  • Power Incline: The ProForm Carbon T14 offers a 12% incline, letting you hit the trails of Earth by way of virtual workouts. Incline training is a quick way to increase intensity without changing speeds.
  • iFit-enabled: The iFit workout package brings with it automatic trainer control, both live and on-demand workouts, nutritional counseling, heart rate training, and more.
  • Cushioning: The treadmill’s ISO Flex Cushioning helps minimize joint stress by lessening impact on the treadmill. This feature has been shown to help lessen joint impact by 35-45% in comparison to running on pavement.
  • Folding Design: If you’re limited on space the good news is the ProForm Carbon T14 is a foldable unit. Folding units are easy to store and benefits from a hydraulic shock assist soft drop system ensuring the takedown is simple.
  • Extras: The ProForm Carbon T14 features, Bluetooth audio speakers, a fan, and automatic leveling feet.
  • In-Home Assembly Included: This is a huge bonus. Assembling a treadmill isn’t the hardest thing in the world, but having it done for you ensures the job is done right and quickly by professionals.
  • 30-Day Return: The ProForm Carbon T14 has a 30-day return policy.

What I Don’t Like:

  • Shorter Walking Belt: For the price I’d expect a 20″ x 60″ belt. The 20″ x 55″ length really limits the machine to walking and hiking.
  • Warranty: The 10-year frame warranty is sufficient, but just one year for parts and labor is a bit short for the price here.

My Final Verdict:

At $1,599 the ProForm Carbon T14 isn’t my top choice frankly. For that money you should consider the Horizon T202 normally priced at $1,299 but usually one sale for as low as $799. That model has a longer running deck and same sized motor, speed, and incline. The only thing you’ll be trading is the 14″ touchscreen for a smaller 7″ LCD screen. If you’re a ProForm family or really want an iFit machine I can understand. It’s priced all right within the NordicTrack and ProForm lineups but given the shorter track and and parts/labor warranty I’m just not that impressed. The big upside to this model is that it combines a large 14″ screen on a smaller treadmill. Typically you’d be paying more for the screen size. Not really. With a tread belt of only 20" x 55" you just can't stride out as far as the industry standard of 20" x 60". It's great for hiking and walking workouts and probably jogging for users of average or lesser height.
